Patient Safety Course Offerings Now Available for Direct Purchase
BOSTON, MA - June 10, 2009 - Advanced Practice Strategies (APS), a leading provider of education solutions for risk management and patient safety, today announced the launch of the APS Learning Center, enabling clinicians and health care professionals to purchase APS patient safety courses directly through the APS website. The Learning Center also allows users to obtain CME and CE credit upon course completion.
Highlights
“APS's risk management and patient safety programs have educated clinicians nationwide”
The APS Learning Center debuts with 28 online course offerings available for purchase, and coincides with the release of two new interactive courses, Postpartum Hemorrhage and Resident Supervision.
Postpartum Hemorrhage tackles the leading cause of preventable death in labor and delivery. Developed in cooperation with the Hospital Corporation of America, this course uses real-life case scenarios to help clinicians eliminate the risk of mortality by offering simple procedures to recognize, manage, and treat obstetrical hemorrhage. In particular, Postpartum Hemorrhage pays special attention to developing clear communication and outlining the steps that each team member should take in response to the presentation of hemorrhage symptoms. This dual focus addresses the major opportunities for protecting obstetrical patients.
Resident Supervision examines the challenges in maintaining the right balance between oversight and autonomy when training residents. It also instructs residents themselves to recognize and follow hospital protocols. Developed in partnership with the Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Medical Institutions, Resident Supervision is primarily focused on developing effective team communications. The course uses interactive case studies to highlight how the complexity of hospital hierarchy and the varied responsibilities of team members for each patient can lead to medical error. The course then helps develop best practices to reduce these risks.
APS's risk management and patient safety programs have educated clinicians nationwide. Prior to today's launch, courses were offered exclusively through a group purchasing model, and were only available to clinicians through their institutions.
