AORN and APS Announce a
National Surgical Safety Partnership

December 1, 2009 - To provide practice support to surgical nurses and promote safety and optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures, the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and Advanced Practice Strategies, Inc., (APS) have announced a national partnership to present a series of online educational courseware for the surgical team.

The APS Surgical Safety Series was created in collaboration with AORN perioperative professionals to empower nurses in surgical settings, improve surgical teams’ communications, and reduce the risk for surgical errors. As the leader in advocating for excellence in perioperative practice and healthcare, AORN represents approximately 41,000 Registered Nurses in the U.S. and abroad who facilitate the management, teaching and practice of perioperative nursing, or who are enrolled in nursing education or engaged in perioperative research.

APS, a leading provider of online education solutions for patient safety, recognizes nurses as being integral to providing high-quality patient care and to reducing errors in the operating room. APS surgical online courses for nurses are clinically interesting, case based, highly interactive and convenient.

Susan Bakewell, MS, RN-BC, Director of the AORN Center for Perioperative Education, spearheaded the Association’s contribution to the Series content. “AORN is very pleased to collaborate with a partner that can so effectively deliver high quality coursework to perioperative professionals,” she said. “Our members, and their colleagues in the operating room, rely on us for up to date resources that can help them stay current in best practices.”
